Doug “Mitch” Mitchell played for the Huskies from 1969-70 and 1972-73, scoring a grand total of 79 points across 78 games. He graduated with a degree in Physical Education, became a teacher and then a principal in rural Saskatchewan. Later, he settled down in Cranbrook, B.C., where he worked as a principal for 22 years.
Not only does Doug have a passion for hockey, but also a deep love for music. Doug plays guitar and banjo and has performed across Canada and the United States at numerous educational and business conferences and folk festivals. He has also written and released four albums of original songs, earning a reputation for making songs filled with humor while others deliver thought-provoking messages. Doug’s songs are available to stream on YouTube. One of Doug’s songs, titled “Savor Every Sandwich,” illustrates his philosophy of enjoying and appreciating every day.
Doug and his wife Patti have four children and six grandchildren, who are all as athletic and active as Doug and Patti continue to be. Doug still enjoys playing hockey in his spare time and his team participates in the B.C. Senior Games.
